Honestly, I´m not sure if it´s better to laugh or to get angry.....now Dr. Murray´s defense team wants a pig "drinking" Propofol to check out it´s reaction.
The choice to use a pig for testings may be based on the fact that a pig´s system works quite similiar to a human system and reacts almost in the same way.
If Propofol is swallowed by a human, it just causes vomitting, you could say as fast as it gets in, as fast it´s out.
I don´t know, if a pig´s reaction may be the same, but did you ever see a pig vomitting? They are "living trash cans", eating almost everything, so how could a physical reaction get evaluated and be compared to the human system?
Additional, orally ingested Propofol wouldn´t cause any effect because the stomach acids destroy the drug immidiately, there´s no way the drug could reach the blood system to cause any kind of sedation!

Vomiting is not listed on the data sheet as resulting from the ingestion of propofol. The ingredients listed don't seem to include anything that would make someone vomit. Is there a link to something scientific/medical that proves ingesting propofol causes vomiting?

AntwortenLöschenPropofol is not offered in oral forms, the reaction of vomitting is caused by the chemical composition and the egg lecithin based emulsion.
Propofol is either broken down in the stomach and intestines or cannot cross the intestinal barrier to get into the blood stream or it is broken down by first pass(that is it is destroyed when it gets from the stomach to the liver and so never make it into the bloodstream).
Most likely Propofol is destroyed by the stomach acids, if those don´t work properly, the liver does "the rest".
